The cedar on a Sunset Hill or Adams block Craftsman is better timber than anything milled today, which is exactly why replacing a whole elevation is usually the wrong first move. We work board by board: pull the failed courses, check what the water did to the sheathing behind them, and set new material at the same exposure and reveal so the shadow line down the wall does not break where the repair starts.
What complicates it here is the weather side. West of 15th Avenue NW the prevailing wind drives rain up under the laps instead of down the face, so butt joints and the ends of boards fail long before the middle of a course does. Repairs on that side of the house get flashed joints and fully sealed end grain, or they simply come back.
